Why Aren’t More People Liking My Page?

Facebook marketing

If you’re feeling frustrated by Facebook, one of the reasons might be that you are not getting the likes that you want.  It can be especially difficult if you had a bunch of likes and new followers at the beginning, and now you’ve hit a plateau in your social media marketing plan.  Or maybe you’ve had your page up for a while and your likes are still lower than expected.  On your business page, having more likes helps to legitimize your business and engage existing and potential clients, so it’s important to keep on top of gaining new followers.

I would ask you to look at three main things on your business page to easily discover why you may not be getting the likes you want and need…

  • Does the “About” section clearly explain what you do and what you offer?

Having a complete and accurate About section on your Facebook page helps people to learn about your business, including your mission, vision, and where you are located.  It’s important to make sure that this information matches what is shown on online directories, such as Google and Yelp, as well.

  • Does your cover photo make people want to engage with your page?  Does it reflect your business?

Your cover photo is the first thing that people see when they visit your page, so you want it to be inviting and relevant to your vision.  On a mobile device, is your cover page getting cut off?  People access Facebook on their mobile devices more than they do on their desktop, so optimizing your page for mobile is key to your professional first impression.

  • What did your last five posts look like?  How recent were they?  Were they sales-based?  Did people “like” and comment on them?

Posting content regularly that people actually want to read is the key to getting likes on your post and likes on your page.  Facebook algorithms change constantly, so posting fresh content that is not overly-salesy will help you to get your posts seen on your client’s newsfeeds.  Look at your Facebook Insights each month to see what people are interacting with, and post more of that content.  Analytics help you to post relevant content at the appropriate times so they will be seen by the most possible people!

Start out with these three items to improve your likes and gain followers.  If you find yourself struggling to find the time to post consistent engaging content, or you’d like more guidance on how to use Facebook effectively for your business, I can help!
